Ribbons!!

It is week 20 over at on our challenge blog 'Anything Goes'
and the theme is Ribbons

I have weaved some different widths and colours of ribbons together
and made it into a little cushion

what do you think?

It measures approximately 10" x 10"

There is very little sewing involved so it came together pretty quickly.

I took some navy, pink and grey satin ribbons, pins, cork board, interfacing and the iron. I cut a piece of interfacing 10" x 10" placed it on the cork, face up. Pinned my ribbons along one edge alternating widths and colours to make it interesting. Turn the cork board and then the same on the next side. Next is the fun bit, to weave them.

When I was pleased with the pattern, placed a damp cloth on the top and gently ironed to attach the ribbons to the interfacing to hold them in place. I then cut a piece of navy cotton fabric to make the back of the cushion. Machined stitched around three and a half sides, turned the right way out. Stuffed with a nice soft filling and then hand stitched the rest.

This could also be done on a smaller scale and used for panels in cards with no need for stitching.

So get out your ribbon boxes and see what you come up with.

Link them to our challenge blog so we can pop over as we would love to see them.

Happy Crafting.

Lynne xx

  7. Gorgeous cushion! I've got a ribbon weaving tool in my toolbox somewhere I picked up at the sew/knit show at the arena about 20 years ago - might have to give it another go!
