Tissue & Wax

When crafting with friends a couple of weeks ago I'd been a bit naughty the week before, I had finished my canvas in between our meeting. I was so into it I couldn't leave it alone. So what else could a girl do but start another one and here it is.

For the background I applied Landscape Green and Altered Orange Studio paint  lightly with baby wipes then  highlights of Classic Teal here and there applied with a card. Stamped some white and cream gift tissue with StazOn in Pumpkin, Timber Brown, and Green  added to canvas in layers of tissue and natural bees wax. Finished off with some hardware bits and InkaGold to edges.

Starting to look good...

Really pleased with how much the paint has crackled, looks very distressed, just like me! lol

First I painted it with a latte colour and after applying the crackle medium I painted with a blush colour. Because I was mixing all my own colours using up lots of old acrylic paints the different mixes vary in shade as I don't measure just squirt and mix. lol I find this all adds to the finished look.

A view from the top edge and inside one of the compartments, which gives you an idea of the depth of each compartment.

The outside measures 31.5cm square and each compartment is 10 x 10 x 4 cm deep It contained decorations at Christmas. Like all true crafters I never through anything out, you never know when you might need it. Now to find things to fill it with.

What ever you are doing today I hope you all have a good day.

Time to play...

I thought I would show you whats been on our dinning room table today. No, not my Sunday dinner.
We couldn't have that until the after I had finished crafting. lol
130 black and white hearts all prepped up for decorating some wedding stationary I have been working on.

I will show the finished cards after they have been collected.
Now they are all finished and boxed up ready for collection I can have a play.
I have got a wooden display with nine compartments, that I have been itching to decorate for ages.
I have got the first coat of paint on. It should be dry now ready for the next coat...

Ava is coming over for the day tomorrow and we are going shopping, can't wait. :-)
Hope you have all had a great weekend.

Stylish Blog Award

I had a lovely surprise when I got home from the NEC last weekend.
I had been given this blog award by the very creative Ann Flutterbycrafter isn't it lovely to get surprises? Thank you very Ann for thinking of me.

Now part of accepting the award is I have to tell you something about me that is unusual, been trying to think of something interesting you might want to know! lol
After reading Ann's I am struggling, thats a hard one to follow.

Many years ago we lived next door to Lesley Ash and her husband Lee Chapman, when Lee played for Sheffield Wednesday.
When the children were still at school I was a cub scout assistant leader for about three years.

Every year I made props and costumes with a few other Mums for our local junior school and church plays.

Now I pass on the award to eight crafty bloggers, so here goes

Hope you are all having a great relaxing weekend and enjoying some crafty time.

A very busy and exciting week a head...

As promised a picture of the whole canvas.

It is so big it is hard to fit it all on without a wide angled lens.

Monday was my day off so I caught up with a few job and went shopping with BH and in the evening we went out for a lovely meal for Valentines day. Yesterday was our Easter and Spring card making workshop. This was a very full and busy class also very enjoyable with lots of laughs along the way. The melt pots are coming out again for todays workshop we are making faux dichroic glass pendants. Thursday is play day as Ava is coming for the day, can't wait, that will be lots of fun. Friday is more crafting with the melt pots this time with beeswax.

The studio will close at 4pm on Friday 18th Feb until 10am on Tuesday 22nd Feb.

I am off to Birmingham on Sat for the weekend for Stitches, the UK trade show. On Saturday I am booked on a Ranger workshop, find it hard to believe a whole year has gone by since I made this in last years workshop

OK I am off to the vets now to get Alfie weighed.

What ever you are doing to day enjoy!

Happy Crafting.

Sew relaxing...

On Friday I spent the day crafting with three good friends. We got out the melt pots, bees wax, paints, canvas, inks and stamps. We took inspiration from Hels Sheridan article in the March issue of Craft Stamper 'Buzzing for Beeswax'

I have used a large canvas approx 14" x 18" with four small canvases attached in varying sizes.

I applied Traditional Tan acrylic paint to all canvases using a baby wipe. Over the top I added a mixed of Sky Blue and Blank Canvas to soften added here and there. Lines of Sable Brown with the edge of a card. While the paint was drying I cut pieces of white gift tissue to fit each canvas and stamped using assorted sewing themed stamps with Timber Brown StazOn.

I attached the tissue to the canvas using melted natural beeswax. I find the smell of melted beeswax very relaxing.

When the wax was cold I buffed up with a soft cloth, this gives the project a lovely shine. The deeper the wax the better the shine. All the canvases are edged with Old Gold Inka Gold. I have then attached various bits and bobs from my sewing box to finish off including some sewing feet, bobbins and shuttles from an old sewing machines.

I will take a picture of the whole project tomorrow as today's pic is very poor so not loading it.
Hope you are all having a relaxing week end.
