What do you do with your packaging?

A couple of weeks ago the lovely Jill from over at Pudding Burner Crafts set a few of us a challenge. The task was to create something from packaging, very nice packaging it was too.

I had already got a prepared and painted canvas with assorted blues and a little eggplant acrylic paint on a couple of pics and some bees wax. It hadn't turned out how I planned it so it was sat in the WIP to look at later box!! I peeled off the pics with a craft knife. Painted a little white pearl paint dabber here and there to soften the darkness of the eggplant. No white acrylic left!! Heated with the heat gun which melted the wax and made a few bubbles here and there, mmmm that was more like it.... even started to look a little like sky...

I inked a piece of the packaging with Frayed Burlap DI and stamped text randomly all over it in archival black ink, cut and shaped it. I covered a Craftwork Cards chipboard bird with an inked piece of music paper, painted with Rock Candy distress crackle paint an added a brad for an eye. Attached my nest to the canvas with Mat Medium added RC distress crackle paint here and there and sprinkled with sage ultra fine Flower Soft to give a moss like effect to the nest.

I took the off cuts of packaging, cut up into slivers to create branches added a few brown card punched MS border branches to give it more of a tree like effect, finished off with a large flower cut with T!ms tattered florals die a circle of grunge board and button for centre, yummy thick felt flower with beaded centre and a few Prima leaves, my bird now has a home.

Next time you have a parcel delivered have look to see if there is anything you can create from the packaging, I would love to see what you come up with.
